The Lagos state police command has declared Omoyele Sowore wanted and confirmed the arrest of 13 suspects over an alleged plot to incite public disorder.
Speaking at a briefing at Iyana-Oworo on the third mainland bridge, commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, said intelligence linked Sowore and his aides to coordinated protest plans targeting strategic locations such as third mainland bridge, Lekki tollgate, and freedom park.
Jimoh warned that attempts to block roads would be met with force.
“Anyone attempting to cause disturbance or block our roads will face the full weight of the law.
“It is only someone who needs examination that would attempt to block such a vital route used by thousands daily.
“The third mainland bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight, any gathering on it could pose structural risks,” he said.
The commissioner said police had deployed units across key bridge and highway points, introduced roadblocks and diversions, and would uphold law enforcement without fear or favour.
He stressed that citizens’ right to free expression must not be abused to threaten peace or safety.
In response, Sowore on his X account accused the police of targeting him during an anti-demolition protest in Oworonshoki.
He claimed that law enforcement used riot guns against protesters, arrested bystanders indiscriminately, and ignored his calls for dialogue.
“It is disheartening to see law enforcement officers, who should be dedicated to fighting crime, terrorism, insurgency, and banditry, being utilized against defenseless citizens.
“The Lagos police commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, has reportedly declared me wanted for disturbance of public peace.
”Allegedly as a result of his officers’ inability to execute a shoot on sight order given by his illegal IGP, Kayode Egbetokun in Oworonsoki today.
“Despite my repeated attempts to contact Nigeria police force commissioner Jimoh, he has not taken my calls;
”Nevertheless, I plan to meet with him soon to address his declaration,” he wrote.
