Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of a Federal High court in Abuja, has declined to continue with the case involving a former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam.
In standing down the case, Monday, Justice Mohammed said his decision was based on online report that he had been compromised to give favourable judgment to the defendant in a case of corruption leveled against Suswam by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
In declining to continue, Mohammed said, ‘”for the overall interest of justice I will hand off the case. I will return the case file to be reassigned to another Judge.”
Justice Mohammed said, his image before the public has been ridiculed and no matter his pronouncement it would be seen to have been compromised.
He therefore declined to continue the case.
The report has said that “Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, has entered into an illegal financial agreement to give Mr. Suswam a “soft landing” from his charges.”
Suswam was charged last year with embezzling and laundering N3.1 billion which he stole from Benue State as Governor from 2007 to 2015.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) first arraigned Suswam in November, 2015 following a lengthy interrogation of both him and his former Finance Commissioner Omadachi Oklobia.
