Award-winning British actor Idris Elba has been knighted by King Charles III in recognition of his services to young people and his longstanding commitment to charitable causes.
Elba received the honour during an investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, where the King formally conferred the United Kingdom’s highest honours on the actor.
King Charles tapped a sword on Elba’s shoulders as he knelt to receive the knighthood.
Elba later expressed gratitude via his instagram page for the recognition, saying “We are thankful. The work continues.”
The knighthood recognises Elba’s extensive work supporting young people through various charitable initiatives. He serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for The King’s Trust and has credited the organisation with helping launch his career through a grant he received at age 18.
The honour was first announced in King Charles’ 2026 New Year Honours list and was formally conferred during the ceremony at Windsor Castle.
