The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Amber Ubung, accused of attacking his lover after she failed to honor their Valentine’s Day arrangement.

Ubung attacked Blessing Onawu, his 25-year-old lover with a machete when she did not fulfill her promise to spend Valentine’s night with him, despite receiving N7,000 from him for a hairdressing appointment.

Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, verified that it occurred in Okuni, within the jurisdiction of Ikom Local Government Area.

“After waiting and the said lady did not show up, the suspect, Ubung, armed himself with a machete, went to the house of Onawu, attacked and gave her several machete cuts all over her body with the intent to kill her,” Grimah disclosed.

He added, “In an attempt by the victim’s mother to rescue her, he used the same machete to inflict injuries on her.”

However, a police team promptly intervened, arresting Ubung at the scene with the machete.

The suspect was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, with plans to arraign him in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The commissioner stated that both the victim and her mother are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

In a separate event, Grimah disclosed that nine other suspects were paraded for alleged armed robbery, while two others faced accusations of murder in different parts of the state.

He appealed for public cooperation in sharing information to combat crime, emphasizing the police command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order.
