Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, on Sunday publicly apologised to actress Doris Ogala, kneeling before members of his congregation as he sought forgiveness over the controversy surrounding their past relationship.
The rift between the pair began after Ogala accused the cleric of failing to fulfil an alleged promise to marry her, an allegation that quickly drew public attention.
Through her legal representatives, Synergy Law Partners, Ogala demanded N1 billion in damages, citing emotional trauma, damage to her reputation and financial losses allegedly arising from the relationship.
According to the actress, the relationship, said to have begun in 2017, involved assurances of marriage, introductions to family members and various financial dealings between both parties.
She claimed that Okafor’s conduct subjected her to emotional distress and financial hardship, including an alleged N45 million transfer connected to their dealings, which she said formed part of the basis for her legal action.
While Okafor initially denied the accusations, he later issued an apology following sustained public pressure.
In a video that circulated widely online, the pastor said, “Mistakes have been made in the past, and I tender an apology to everybody,” making specific reference to Ogala.
He also expressed readiness to make amends, adding, “I’m ready to make a restitution to anyone, anybody, any lady I have offended. I am sorry. Forgive me.”
However, Okafor maintained his stance that the allegations were not entirely accurate, insisting that everything that was said is not true and describing Ogala’s claims as containing so many lies.
Reacting during an Instagram Live session, Ogala said she had accepted his apology but took exception to the suggestion that she fabricated the claims.
“Chris Okafor, I forgive you, but there’s a problem. Where you said everything is a lie. I have a problem with that because I don’t lie,” she wrote.
