The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 7 individuals over an alleged large-scale theft involving goods worth ₦20.45 million from a commercial shop in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the State.
Police investigations revealed that three of those arrested were staff members of the affected shop, while four others were accused of receiving and disposing of the stolen items. A driver was among the seven arrested for playing a role in moving the goods.
Those identified by the police include Oyineke Joseph, a storekeeper; Abioye Yusuf, a computer operator; Abdullahi Quadir; and the alleged receivers, Micheal Njoku, Agu Monday and Ikuemehin Oloruntimilehin. A driver, identified as Ojewuyi, was also implicated in the operation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the police, the matter was reported on January 3 by the shop owner identified as Ogunyomi Segun, who alleged that some of his employees had been stealing goods from the store over a prolonged period, spanning 2024 to 2026.
Investigations showed that the items allegedly stolen included assorted soft drinks, Trophy cans and other canned beverages, with the total value estimated at ₦20.45 million.
“In a decisive crackdown on economic and financial crimes, the Ondo State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a conspiracy and stealing case involving goods valued at ₦20.45 million,” the statement read.
Jimoh said all the suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation and gave detailed accounts of the roles they played in the alleged theft.
“They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation,” he said.
The police spokesperson called on residents to remain alert and to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling criminality across the state.
