The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, over the alleged killing of his wife, Umaima Maidawa, aged 25, in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Friday in Birnin Kebbi by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12, at about 6:30 a.m.
Usman explained that Mamuda is accused of attacking his wife with the wooden handle of a hoe, an assault that reportedly led to her death.
“The suspect fled the area after the incident but was later traced and arrested following police investigation and credible information received from members of the community.
“The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has directed that the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Usman said.
The police spokesperson further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report crimes and suspicious activities, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to sustaining peace and security in the state.
