The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man identified as Idris Nasiru, over allegations of running an illegal clinic in Ore, Ondo State.
Police said the suspect was arrested on January 14 during an intelligence-driven operation, describing the development as another milestone in the command’s ongoing campaign against medical quackery.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the command disclosed that Nasiru was apprehended by its surveillance team following actionable intelligence.
“The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by Command’s Surveillance Team, during which the suspect, Idris Nasiru (male), aged 25 years, was apprehended,” the statement read.
Jimoh said operatives conducted a search of the suspect’s shop, where several medical-related items were recovered.
“A search of his shop led to the recovery of various medical items, including packs of injection needles, medical drips, bandages, and assorted medical kits,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson added that officers later extended the search to the suspect’s residence after obtaining a valid search warrant.
“Subsequently, a thorough search of his residence was conducted with a duly signed search warrant, during which used injection bottles, needles, and syringes were also recovered,” the command stated.
According to the police, initial findings showed that the suspect lacked the professional qualifications required to operate a medical facility.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is not a registered medical practitioner, confirming that the clinic was being operated illegally,” the statement said.
The command said Nasiru has given statements to investigators and will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
“He has since made useful statements while in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police said.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, highlighted the importance of intelligence-led policing in tackling crime and assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Lawal also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership and continued support through reforms and initiatives aimed at improving public safety and addressing medical-related offences.
The command appealed to members of the public to continue supporting police efforts with timely and credible information.
“The Ondo State Police Command urges members of the public to continue cooperating with the Police by providing credible and actionable information that will assist in combating crime and criminality across the State,” the statement said.
Residents were also cautioned to remain vigilant when seeking healthcare services.
“The Command further advises residents of Ondo State to exercise caution when seeking medical services and to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to medical quacks,” Jimoh added.
