Suspected gunmen have struck two villages in the Miango district of the Bassa Local Government Area again in Plateau State resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
The national publicity secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Davidson Malison stated that assailants launched an attack on the Nkienzha community during the early hours of Monday, February 12.
Three people were killed, and another was severely injured with machete cuts, currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
The fourth fatality occurred in a separate attack on Teegbe village on Saturday, February 11. Meanwhile, a car ambush took place on Friday, February 9, resulting in the vehicle being burnt, and one person sustaining injuries.
Expressing their condemnation of these brutal attacks, the leadership of the Rigwe nation, represented by the traditional council and development association, labeled the resurgence of violence as callous and barbaric.
The ruler of Rigwe Chiefdom, Reverend Ronku Aka, and Irigwe Development Association President, Robert Ashi, have called upon security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.
Recall that Plateau state has witnessed a spate of violent incidents recently, with over 200 casualties reported during Christmas Eve attacks in the Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas.
The attacks resulted in extensive damage to properties, including houses and farmlands, and numerous injuries.
The attack persisted into the new year, with assailants killing over 30 individuals and setting numerous houses ablaze in Kwahaslalek village, a community in Mangu Local Government Area, in January.
In response to the escalating security situation, Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed a curfew in the affected Local Government Area, although it was later lifted.
