The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha makes an appearance at the FCT High Court in Abuja today Tuesday, February 13, to testify about the ongoing trial of former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele faces a trial before Justice Muazu on 20-count amended charges, including allegations of corrupt advantages, conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining by false pretenses amounting to $6,230,000.
He is also accused of impersonating the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to illegally obtain the sum.
Appearing as Prosecution Witness 2, the former SGF testified about his involvement in the alleged $6.2 million fraud case against Emefiele.
He stated that he had no knowledge of the transaction during his tenure and emphasized that the document did not originate from the office of the President.
Recall that on Monday, February 12, the First Prosecution Witness (PW1), Onyeka Ogbu, recounted how Emefiele approved the payment in cash for international election observers during the 2023 general election.
Ogbu, the Deputy Director of Branch Operations at the apex bank, noted that he reviewed and approved the payment request.
However, the SGF has refuted claims by clarifying that during his tenure, he was unfamiliar with the term Special Appropriation Provision, recognizing only appropriation and supplementary.
Mustapha also noted that in all correspondences he received from former President Muhammadu Buhari, the sign-off never included what he described as please accept with my highest regard.
He suggested that the signature was an attempt to replicate Buhari’s signature, which he deemed unsuccessful.
Mustapha expressed his belief that the Nigerian government was not responsible for paying foreign election observers stating that decisions of the Federal Executive Council were not conveyed through letters.
