The Rivers state house of assembly has withdrawn its recognition of Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the state.
Omehia was governor of the state from May 29, 2007 to October 25, 2007 when he was removed by the supreme court, and replaced by Rotimi Amaechi as the rightful governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time.
The motion to derecognise the Ikwerre local government area-born politician was moved by the leader of the house, Hon. Martin Amaewhule.
Meanwhile, all 21 members present voted in support of the motion to remove Omehia from the list of the state former governors, and resolved to forward their resolution to the state governor, Nyesom Wike, for implementation.
The former governor is a cousin to the former minister of transportation and governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, Leadership reports.
Omehia had recently fallen out with Wike over his support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
