Security forces from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Military have successfully rescued seven abducted persons in Kaduna State following a high-risk joint operation.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, the operation began after the Command received a distress report on December 5 that armed men had invaded a community in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, and abducted several residents.

In immediate response, operatives from the FCT Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigerian Army, and the DSS launched a coordinated search mission on December 6.

“Following a distress call received by the Police on December 5, 2025, reporting that heavily armed kidnappers had invaded a community in Ushafa, Abuja, and whisked away several residents under the cover of darkness, a joint security task force made up of operatives from the FCT Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) swung into action on December 6, launching a coordinated manhunt for the abductors,” the statement read.

With the help of intelligence, the team tracked the kidnappers through the outskirts of Mpape and toward settlements linked to Kagarko Local Government Area in Kaduna State. The abductors opened fire upon sighting the operatives, prompting a fierce exchange that forced them to abandon one victim as they fled.

Adeh stated that the operatives pressed on with determination, enduring more than seven hours of pursuit across rugged terrain to dismantle the gang. Their efforts led them to the kidnappers’ main hideout deep within Kweri Forest in Kaduna State, where another heavy gunfight broke the criminals’ resistance and forced them to scatter.

A thorough sweep of the forest resulted in the rescue of six additional victims, bringing the total to seven. All rescued persons were immediately taken to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

FCT Police Commissioner, Miller Dantawaye, commended the courage, discipline and professionalism displayed during the operation and directed enhanced security deployment across vulnerable areas to prevent further criminal incursions into the Federal Capital Territory.
