Terrorists have invaded St. Mary’s Private Catholic Secondary School in the Papiri community of Agwara local government area, Niger state, abducting an unknown number of students and teachers in the early hours of Friday.
The terrorists reportedly struck between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., carrying out a coordinated operation that left the school in chaos.
Authorities confirmed the incident but have yet to release official figures.
Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, head of disaster and relief for Agwara local government, and Bello Gidi, media aide to the council chairman, confirmed the attack adding that authorities were still compiling information to determine the exact number of abductees.
Spokesperson for the Niger state police command, Wasiu Abiodun, said he would provide details at a later time.
The abduction at St. Mary’s Papiri follows a spate of similar incidents in Nigeria, including the kidnapping of about 25 students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi state, earlier this week.
