Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night, November 10, 2021, attacked Anara market in Isiala Mbano local government area of Imo State killing three persons and injuring others.

It was gathered that the gunmen arrived in a white Sienna minivan at about 10 pm and without alighting from the vehicle opened fire on unsuspecting residents who were going about their normal business.

Three persons, a man who was eating at a local canteen, a passerby and a northern who was selling roasted meat popularly called ‘suya’ were reportedly shot and died on the scene while other wounded persons were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Although the reason for the attack is yet unknown, the siege has raised tension in the area.

Activities in the ever-busy daily Anara market have been grounded as traders, customers and residents tread with caution over the uncertainty of the attack.

Commuters who normally run interstate transport services from the market also stayed away for fear of the unknown.

Although it was gathered that the attack was the first of its kind in Anara town, there has been incessant attacks in other areas in Imo state.

Over the weekend, another three persons were killed when gunmen attacked a popular suya spot at Neokeisima-Umuologho junction in the Obowo local area of the state.
