The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, on Sunday held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The visit was made public by the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Sharing details of the engagement on X along with photographs from the meeting, Onanuga wrote: “Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III visited President Tinubu at the state house Abuja on Sunday March 15.”
The president is the country’s highest political authority, while the Sultan is widely recognised as the foremost spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria.
As the head of the Sokoto Caliphate, the Sultan plays a key role in religious and traditional affairs, representing Muslim communities nationwide.
At the time this report was filed, officials had not disclosed the issues discussed during the meeting.
Courtesy visits of this nature between top national figures are often aimed at strengthening unity, encouraging peaceful coexistence, and exchanging views on national governance and security.
