The Rivers State Commissioner of Works, Dakorinama Alabo George, has resigned from Governor Sim Fubara’s cabinet to accept an appointment as the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Dakorinama, holding a Ph.D. in Construction Management, an MSc in Quantity Surveying and Construction Engineering, and a B.Tech in Quantity Surveying, has been selected for his extensive qualifications and experience.
He is noted as a fellow of prestigious associations such as the Certified Institute of Practising Professionals, USA, and the Association of Strategy Professionals, USA.
Formerly serving as the commissioner for works in Rivers State, George is expected to lead BCDA with integrity, diligence, and dedication in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda for border communities development, as per the statement by Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale.
President Tinubu has also appointed Zubaida Umar as the new Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), making her the first female to hold this position.
Replacing Mustapha Ahmed, Umar’s appointment underscores the President’s commitment to gender inclusion, as stated by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Zubaida Umar boasts over 20 years of experience in Human Resources, Finance, and Administration, holding memberships in esteemed organizations like the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration.
Her ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing further demonstrate her expertise.
Having served as the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Umar is expected to bring financial and operational discipline to NEMA, transforming it into a performance-driven and proactive emergency response provider.
The focus will be on prevention and climate change readiness to effectively execute the agency’s core mandate, as emphasized by Ngelale.
