Troops of the Nigerian army under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Wednesday, March 25, arrested 18 Boko Haram logistics suppliers in Gubio local government area of Borno state.
The individuals were intercepted while moving towards Gudumbali axis to deliver supplies to Boko Haram terrorists operating in the region.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they were involved in transporting food items and other logistics meant to sustain terrorist activities.
Some of the suspects admitted to participating in the operation due to economic hardship, highlighting how terrorist groups continue to exploit vulnerable civilians to sustain their operations in the north east.
The army called on host communities across the north east to remain vigilant, urging residents to promptly report suspicious activities and resist any inducement to aid criminal elements.
It noted that the success of ongoing counter-terrorism operations depends greatly on the cooperation and active support of host communities.
The Nigerian army acknowledged that lasting peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved through military operations alone.
It stressed the need for sustained socio-economic support, community-focused initiatives, skills development, and improved access to basic services as critical tools for reducing vulnerabilities and discouraging civilians from falling into the hands of terrorist recruiters.
The Nigerian army issued a stern warning to all citizens against any form of collaboration with terrorist groups, stressing that providing logistics, intelligence, or any assistance to such elements remains a serious criminal offence with grave consequences for national security and the safety of innocent lives.
