Troops of sector two operating under the north west joint task force Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), on Wednesday, March 25, launched a series of offensive operations against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, neutralizing six terrorists.
In Sokoto state, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) intervention battalion VII, engaged terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho forest, neutralizing three terrorists and recovering three AK-47 rifles as well as motorcycles.
Similarly, in Zamfara state, troops carried out a successful ambush along the Gada Maya-Makakari village road, neutralizing two terrorists and forcing others to flee.
Items recovered include an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a communication radio, mobile phones, and a motorcycle.
Troops also thwarted a retaliatory attack on Kaida village, neutralizing another terrorist and recovering an additional AK-47 rifle.
In a separate clearance operation in Dutsi village, Moriki district of Zurmi local government area, terrorists abandoned weapons and ammunition while fleeing under sustained military pressure.
In Kebbi state, troops responding to intelligence on the presence of the Lakurawa terrorist group in Giron Masa community, Shanga local government area, were ambushed en route to the village.
However, reinforcements were deployed, and operations are ongoing to track and neutralize the fleeing attackers.
The Nigerian army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and ensuring the safety of communities across the north-west, noting that troops remain motivated and resolute in achieving operational objectives.
