Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on multiple locations across Borno and Yobe states, killing over 50 insurgents in fierce overnight battles.
The attacks occurred between midnight and 4:00a.m. in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko, situated in sector one(Borno state) and sector 2 (Yobe state).
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, media information officer of the joint task force, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the troops stood firm, fought gallantly, and professionally repelled the attacks, dealing the terrorists a decisive and bloody blow.
“The combined ground and air efforts resulted in the neutralisation of over 50 terrorists across all the locations.
“Troops also recovered 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of ammunition of various calibres,” the statement read.
The military added that over 70 wounded terrorists were still being pursued by ground troops with support from air components.
“Intelligence reports indicated that insurgents who attacked Dikwa and Gajibo infiltrated from the Cameroon axis, while those who targeted Katarko came from the Timbuktu triangle, a notorious terrorist enclave.
“Some of the gallant troops were wounded in action but are in stable condition. Some vehicles and buildings were also gutted by fire from the terrorists armed drones and RPG fire during the battle especially in Mafa and Dikwa where a part of the defences were momentarily breached,” the statement read.
The military high command commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience, describing their performance as a reaffirmation of the Nigerian military’s unwavering resolve and capacity to defend the nation’s territorial integrity.
