Troops of the Nigerian army’s sixth brigade, operating under sector three of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) on Tuesday, January 27, rescued a kidnapped victim identified as Ghali in Taraba state.
The victim was rescued when soldiers deployed at Dogon Gawa discovered him in a bush within the brigade’s area of responsibility after he was abandoned by his kidnappers as troops intensified operations across the area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ghali and another individual, identified as Simon Oluchukwu, were kidnapped on January 11 at Gbise village in Mbayonga area of Benue state.
Their driver was shot and killed during the incident.
After his rescue, Ghali was debriefed by security personnel and given medical attention before being reunited with his family.
The commander of sixth brigade Nigerian army and sector three OPWS, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa praised the troops for their resilience and professionalism during the operation.
He said efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining victim and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
Uwa also called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information, noting that public support remains critical to the success of ongoing operations.
The Nigerian army said the rescue reflects the commitment of troops under OPWS to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities while working to restore peace and security across the region.
