Two dead, 10 others injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

    Two persons were confirmed dead while 10 others sustained different degrees of injuries in an accident, that occurred at the Kara turning section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway today Friday, November 10.

    The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed that the incident happened in Abeokuta.

    She stated that the accident, which occurred at 8:32 a.m., involved a Mazda bus, with the registration number XV 945 EPE and an unregistered Howo Sino truck.

    She ascribed the accident to route violation and dangerous driving on the part of the bus driver, who ran into the truck.

    The FRSC public education officer added that 14 people were involved in the accident, adding that while two people died instantly, 10 sustained injuries and two were unhurt.

    Okpe further noted that the injured victims had been taken to Famobis Hospital, while the deceased were deposited at Idera Mortuary, Sagamu.

    She quoted Anthony Uga, the state’s FRSC Sector Commander, as advising drivers to avoid driving against traffic (one way) and to drive carefully to protect other road users’ lives as well as their own.

    However, Uga reiterated the corps’ continued commitment to creating a safer motoring environment and maintaining service delivery, even as he sought the cooperation of all and sundry.
