Saraki’s Gets New Date for Trial over False Assets Declaration

Senate President Bukola Saraki’s date with the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) was on Tuesday shifted to March 11 for resumption of trial over false asset declaration.
The Tribunal had last month fixed March 10 for resumption of proceedings shortly after the Supreme Court dismissed Saraki’s appeal, challenging his trial at the CCT.
It was learnt that the new date was at the instance of Saraki, whose new lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN) wrote the court and requested for a shift from the earlier date.
Agabi was said to have in a letter said he has other “urgent commitments” to attend to on March 10.
According to Agabi: “I write as lead counsel to the above defendant (Saraki) to apply that the matter, which is now scheduled to come up on the 10th day of March 2016, subject to the convenience of the honourable tribunal and learned counsel for the prosecution, be taken on the 11th day of March, 2016, due to my earlier and urgent commitments in other courts on the 10th.”
